We've had the Doctor in again following an outbreak of shiny metal fever here at HobbyKing! A healthy dose of excitement into our EDF range was his suggestion, and since then the good Dr. has been burning the midnight oil at the lab to bring even more high performance, easy to use EDF systems to the masses with the introduction of his latest creations; the lightweight, chrome electroplated plastic range of multi bladed fan units with built-in "woosh" factor!

The new Dr. Mad Thrust EDF chrome plated series are pre-assembled, making them  simple and easy to fit, no unit assembly is required. Mixed review for this unit. It does run pretty smoothly however the assembly had some weaknesses built in. For example the motor is held into the brittle plastic shroud with countersunk screw heads which doesn't make for a very solid bond. When removed I found the screws had been treated with permanent locktite and one screw head sheared off. The plastic shroud broke on one of the motor mounting tabs, likely due to the beveled screw heads forcing the plastic when tightened originally. When checking the other parts, here was no locktite on the adapter mounting set screws or the motor shaft set screw to out runner bell. This motor shaft also had no flat spots to keep the shaft from twisting which could lead to an imbalance, or the whole shaft pulling out with the fan. I then reassembled the unit with a replacement shroud after putting in a motor shaft flat spot. The motor mounting screws were replaced with flat head screws and washers along with medium locktite. The fan needed a few drops of epoxy for static balance then the unit was dynamically balanced by clocking the fan and spinner. Overall, it is a decent fan but it is a shame the motor mount screws weren't flat, and the motor shaft wasn't secured better.
