  • Durafly™ Messerschmitt Bf.109E-4 Desert Scheme 1100mm (43.3”) (PNF)

    buy now

Originally designed by Willy Messerschmitt in the mid-1930s the Germans constructed over 33,000 Bf-109’s between 1939 – 1945 and they were flown in many theatres of operation. The Bf-109e was a fierce adversary for allied fighters such as the Hawker Hurricane and the legendary Supermarine Spitfire. With its lightweight design, retractable landing gear, destructive 20mm cannons, powerful Daimler-Benz liquid-cooled fuel-injected inverted V12 the Bf-109e would have made the Luftwaffe pilot feel nearly invincible.

    buy now

The Russian Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (NATO reporting name "Fresco") entered service in 1952. It was a further development of the successful MiG-15 jet fighter from the Korean War. The color scheme Avios has used is similar to the civilian MIG-17s flown in the United States by the "Black Diamond" Display Team painted in arctic camouflage. The MiG-17 is made of tough, high compression EPO, and pre-painted, but you're expected to apply the decals. The MiG-17 has a pre-installed 90mm 12 bladed fan unit with 3541/1550KV brushless outrunner motor, 100A ESC with 5A UBEC, 12 pre-installed metal geared digital servos, an aluminum retract system, split flaps, air brakes, and LED lighting. The Fw 190 was used by the Luftwaffe in a wide variety of roles, including day fighter, fighter-bomber, ground-attack aircraft, and to a lesser degree, night fighter. The Fw 190 was well-liked by its pilots. Some of the Luftwaffe's most successful fighter aces claimed a great many of their kills while flying it, including Otto Kittel, Walter Nowotny, and Erich Rudorffer.

  • Hornby 00 Gauge R3568 BR Class 71 Bo-Bo E5018 in BR Green Era 6 (DCC ready)

    buy now

The early 1950s were a time of great plans and modern ideas, not least where the railways were concerned. Still recovering from the financial effects of the Second World War, many of these plans had to be implemented in a measured way. Electric traction was seen by the newly nationalised British Rail to be the answer and so attention was focused on new routes in the Southern Region, where third rail electrification had been in place since 1923. Much of BR’s Southern Region passenger traffic could be accommodated by the use of EMUs, but to cover the motive power requirement for 900-tonne freight services, as well as the "Night Ferry" and "Golden Arrow" workings, a new electric locomotive was required. The design specification was based on the experience gained in the previous fifteen years, through the operation of Bulleid’s CC1 & CC2, Class 70 locomotives. By adopting the continental practice of reducing the weight, without sacrificing tractive effort, a smaller engine could be built, resulting in a 750v DC, 77 ton, Bo-Bo locomotive, 24 of which were built by BR’s Doncaster works between 1958 and 1960.

The Hornby model of a Class 71 Bo-Bo is supplied DCC ready, it is plug n play, no complicated wiring is required. It is painted in BR Green with running number E5018 and has NEM close coupled couplings as standard. The Class 71 Bo-Bo is powered by a 5 pole skew wound motor which provides a smooth and powerful drive unit.
